Life and Legacy Program

Congregation Etz Chaim provides Northwest Arkansas an open door where people of all backgrounds can feel at home to learn about and explore Jewish identity, spirituality, and culture; and effect change in our community.

Founded in 2004 with 12 families, and located in the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas, Congregation Etz Chaim is made up of families with diverse Jewish backgrounds with common goals and ideals. We offer a variety of programs, schooling, Torah study, services, and a Jewish Community. The current 45 member families of Congregation Etz Chaim pride themselves on creating a safe and comfortable place for any Jew no matter their background to participate, grow, learn, or just relax and enjoy being Jewish. CEC is unaffiliated, which enables us to meet the varied needs of Jews in our tight-knit community.

Bentonville is the tenth-largest city in Arkansas and the county seat of Benton County. It is one of the four main cities in the four-county Northwest Arkansas Area, which is ranked 109th in terms of population in the United States, and continues to maintain drastic growth as the center for commerce and education. We are proud of our city, and feel it affords a comfortable blend of “small town atmosphere” combined with the services and vibrancy of a larger city.

Being located in the same city as the headquarters of Walmart, and near Tyson Foods and the University of Arkansas, we have an obligation to provide a welcoming “home” to anyone interested in synagogue life within our community, regardless of gender, marital status, race, age, sexual orientation or economic circumstances. We are committed to fostering an environment that is a caring, multigenerational, and inclusive.

Study, prayer, ritual observance, community building, tzedakah, concern for the welfare of all Jews and all humanity…these constitute the pillars of a thriving, inspirational synagogue. We offer weekly Shabbat services, monthly Shabbat morning Torah study, pastoral care and counseling, adult B’nai Mitzvah, Religious School (K-B’nai Mitzvah), Torah Tots (pre-K), PJ Library programing, youth group, camp scholarships, Sisterhood and Misterhood, social and volunteer opportunities, and Tikkun Olam – Social Action opportunities.

The needs of our Jewish community won’t end in 5 years, in 25 years or in 100 years. But you can help future generations of Jews meet the challenges of the future. A legacy gift to Congregation Etz Chaim will extend a helping hand to your children, your grandchildren and future generations (l’dor v’dor) of Jews by strengthening our ability to support those services and organizations, values and traditions that you have supported and found crucial to Jewish life. You cannot predict the future, but you can trust Congregation Etz Chaim to apply the income from your legacy to the important needs of the day.

Help honor our past while planning for our future…you can choose from a variety of methods to leave a bequest that will not in any way affect your current lifestyle, but will affect and enrich the lives of future generations of Jews by mitigating some of the inevitable needs and emergencies Congregation Etz Chaim and the community face.

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Arkansas, has developed a structured program which provides financial incentives to Jewish agencies that participate in of the LIFE & LEGACY program and reach certain agreed upon milestones. Congregation Etz Chaim has a Year #1 goal of 18 commitments by March 2017 from congregants and community members. When we reach this goal, and we will receive a $5,000 incentive grant. Our Year #2 goal of an additional 18 commitments will provide an additional $5,000 grant.

"In this hour we, the living, are the people of Israel. The tasks begun by our ancestors and prophets and continued by their descendants are now entrusted to us. We are either the last Jews or those who will hand over the entire past to generations to come. We will either forfeit or enrich the legacy of ages."

-- Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
